Here's my WIP of the Flower Simulation for my SIGGRAPH Commercial. Materials, among other things, still need to be added/refined.

Ben Davis' framing of particle-heavy shots shows a delicate balance between action, clarity, and emotion. Whether it's the chaotic swirl of energy during battle scenes or the gentle drift of cosmic dust in space, Davis ensures that particles are used purposefully within his compositions. He incorporates depth, dynamic movement, and careful use of negative space to keep the visual effects integrated with the live-action elements, making particle effects not just a spectacle, but an essential part of storytelling.

Davis often uses particles to create a sense of depth in his compositions. Particles such as dust, embers, or magical energy are placed in both the foreground and background, drawing the audience’s eye through the layers of the frame. This technique allows the scene to feel three-dimensional and immersive.

Davis uses center framing for particle-heavy scenes when he wants to highlight a specific visual or character. This technique works particularly well when the particles themselves are central to the narrative or a magical effect is happening.
